About the Study Program
The uniqueness offered by the Master’s Program in Philosophy of Divinity can be found in its curriculum, which is distinguished into two different concentrations: the Transformative Theology concentration and the Intercultural and Religious Studies concentration. The difference in emphasis compared to other study programs lies in its transformative nature (encouraging change) and intercultural perspective (linking cultures) within its teaching materials. This uniqueness helps students to independently and maturely engage in doing theology, as is carried out in pastoral praxis, and to be directly involved in developing cross-cultural spiritual values, such as in efforts to foster interreligious peace. The flood of global secularism, which has now penetrated national and local spheres, demands individuals who dare to voice the truth of faith and cultivate an atmosphere of life that is conducive and peaceful. For this reason, this Study Program continuously develops various forms of collaboration that embody the real contribution of the academic community and its graduates.
Globalization always brings about “glocalization.” Therefore, the Master’s Program in Philosophy of Divinity specifically studies three interrelated areas — Anthropos (Human), Cosmos (Universe), and Theos (God) — from theological, religious, and cultural perspectives within the scope of the humanities. This Study Program offers depth, contextuality, and relevance of studies supported by religious studies, intercultural studies, and transformative theology studies. In order to survive amidst global changes, profound understanding, sensitivity and thorough analysis, as well as the ability to offer applicable models and fresh perspectives are required for graduates when facing encounters between the global and the local.
Today, what happens at the global level directly influences the local level. At the micro level, and especially at the national and local levels, the Master’s Program in Philosophy of Divinity also faces competition from graduate users, student recruitment sources, lecturers and academic staff, partners in cooperation, distance education programs, and various educational systems being offered. In facing challenges in this micro environment, the Study Program promotes a more balanced academic character between the richness of classical theological-philosophical traditions, new ideas in the latest developments of theology, spirituality, and culture, between new concepts and praxis, as well as a balance of analytical methods that are meta-theoretical, imaginative, and transformative. The Study Program also takes into account micro-environmental challenges arising from the demand for a workforce that tends to be pragmatic and technical, by listening to input and obtaining support from graduate users and alumni.
