The Dean’s Welcome Remarks

“Bonum, Verum, Pulchrum” is displayed on one of the walls at the Faculty of Philosophy (FF) of UNPAR. These three words are not only publicly exhibited but are also studied, internalized, and implemented within the dynamics of the FF academic community to cultivate truly human individuals. Bonum (goodness), verum (truth), and pulchrum (beauty) are natural aspirations of humans living within a particular cultural context. The FF academic community strives to discover goodness, truth, and beauty through sharp reasoning, deep reflection, and the will to relate and collaborate with others within a humanistic framework to achieve bonum commune (the common good) and wisdom.

In the past, FF’s role may have been limited to providing education for prospective (Catholic) priests. However, in recent years, FF has opened additional study programs accessible to everyone, accommodating the desire of many to study philosophy, theology, culture, and the arts through the available programs, including the Humanities Program (Integrated Arts) and the cultural concentration. Therefore, FF serves as an ideal place to sharpen intellectual sensitivity, moral discernment, and the beauty of wisdom, to be shared with peers in diverse ways and forms.
